Community and event support

SRP supports events on the Verde River watershed and in metropolitan Phoenix to promote understanding of water issues, promote conservation and to foster a deeper understanding of the Salt and Verde rivers' importance to central Arizona communities.

These events include the following:

  • Verde River Runoff: This 5- or 10-mile kayak, canoe or standing board race draws racers of all skill levels to take on the Verde River during the spring runoff.

  • Spring Heritage Pecan & Wine Festival: This two-day event celebrates the Verde Valley's spring weather, complete with live music, 40 vendors and family-friendly activities. It usually runs in conjunction with the Verde River Runoff.

  • Verde River Day: This September event at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona "promotes preservation and care of the environment by showcasing informative exhibits on the Verde River's unique riparian habitat."

  • SRP Water Conservation Expo: This March event in Tempe showcases products and methods for Phoenix-area residents to conserve water at home and at work. Registrants are typically eligible for greatly discounted smart irrigation controllers and accessories.

  • Northern Arizona Forest Fund: This consortium formed by the National Forest Foundation and SRP works with business and governmental partners to restore northern Arizona's forests, the headwaters of the Salt and Verde rivers. Volunteer and donation opportunities are available throughout the year.
